Lecrae, Houston-born, Atlanta native, has teamed up to do an album with the legendary producer known as Zaytoven. If you’ve followed Lecrae’s career, this may come as shock to you, but if you’ve followed his career closely enough, this will not come off as a surprise.

This Friday (June 2nd), Lecrae and Zaytoven will be releasing the first single from their forthcoming Let The Trap Say Amen album.

Zaytoven, has produced for a lot of the hottest artists: Gucci Mane, Jeezy, Migos, Future, and many more. He’s now taking his production to the church–a familiar place–one that he goes to every Sunday. To the fans and critics who may be confused by Lecrae and Zaytoven working together, I suggest reading Lecrae’s essay, written on DJBooth.

When you hear the term “trap music” you most likely think of an ode to drugs, dealing, money, and mayhem. But truthfully, the production sets the scene first. Dope boys want to rap over a particular soundscape,” Lecrae wrote.  “Zaytoven, Metro Boomin, and Murda Beatz, amongst others, provide that. There was a trap beat before anyone glorified trap life over it and there are more stories from the Trap that have yet to be told. Kendrick’s done it, Kodak Black spilled his heart out, my brother Thi’sl from St. Louis has as well.”

The trap does more than say “Aye.” It says “Amen.”
